The Bega Valley story on Landline was inspiring. Thank you for a great introduction to the circular economy in your article. I also recommend Ellen MacArthur as a great resource.

Would innovation hubs that bring people from disparate industries and disciplines together to find new collaborative ways of doing things be important in breaking away from the links in a supply chain model?

Yes, and this idea has been gaining traction for a while. Circular economy hubs or precincts are being encouraged where one business’s waste or by-product becomes the feedstock for another. A well established example that pre-dates the more recent CE thinking is the Kwinana industrial area south of Perth but I’m sure there are more examples overseas so I’ll look into these as inspiration for a future article. Thanks Gayle!

Thank you. I knew about the circular economy but not the recent "Redefine a meaningful life with less consumption”. This change of mindset at a personal level (remembering that all organisations are also made of people with personal mindsets making decisions) seems to me to be the key and also the stumbling block.

One reason I like to use gardening as an example is that it easier for people to see the difference between the linear way of gardening with inputs from the nurseries and landscaping shops and waste into bin for someone else to deal with versus the circular way with composting, propagating, repurposing, working with nature to build healthy soil and ecosystems.

Talking about a circular economy on a bigger scale is more abstract but once you get the idea in one area, it's easier to apply that way of thinking and questioning in other areas.
