I have recently joined a group called Regen Brisbane. I’ve been trying to find a diverse group of people with similar objectives and values who are ready and willing to work together on difficult problems that need to be tackled to improve our natural environment without forgetting the needs of the people who live, work and play in this city. I hope this might be it.
Too often now, any public discourse about projects or initiatives that challenge the status quo descends into “shouting matches” or political point scoring. I want to be involved in more nuanced conversations that seek to understand different perspectives and look for intelligent solutions in the face of otherwise seemingly binary choices. I’m ready to learn from others and contribute where I can, so that we can deepen conversations, educate each other and seek solutions that deliver better outcomes.
I am also keen to talk about circular economy topics like “What does it mean to design out waste?”, “How do we keep materials in use at their highest value for as long as possible?” and “How do we regenerate our planet (one house, suburb, city at a time?)”. I also have a deep interest in other areas like climate-sensitive urban design, urban farming and regenerative food production and how they impact social outcomes.
Above all else, I am driven to action! We need to talk about these issues in a different way and set self-interest aside so we can craft better solutions and then get on and implement them. That’s the change I want to be a part of. So, Regen Brisbane, let’s give that a whirl!
Yes, it feels like the energy is growing as Regen Brisbane begins to take shape. Thanks for being part of it.
